Martin M. Kamethuthe climb, made personal

The journey

From a humbling interview tothe path I build now.

Twelve years, one continent, and a single conviction that hardened along the way. Here is the road, year by year.

2013 – 2019

Learning the craft

  1. 2013

    Software Developer Intern

    Softclans · Nairobi

Fresh out of JKUAT with a degree in IT and the quiet certainty that study had made me ready. My first job in the industry.

  2. 2013

    The interview that humbled me

    Serianu · Nairobi · December

I sat my first interview at the sharpest security firm in the country and, within a few questions, that certainty was gone. I had a vocabulary. I did not yet have judgment.

  3. 2014

    Cybersecurity Analyst

    Serianu · Nairobi

Started at the bottom of the operations centre. Novice in cyber, learning the work the hard way, one incident at a time.

  4. 2016

    Consultant, regional delivery

    Serianu · first Botswana engagement

My first work on the ground in Botswana, and the start of delivering security across borders rather than just from a desk.

  5. 2017 – 2019

    Technical Solutions Lead

    Serianu · across Africa

Leading detection, response and advisory delivery as the firm's footprint widened across the continent.

2020 – 2022

From operator to builder

  1. 2020

    The reset

    Kenya

COVID sent me back home. A forced pause that turned into a leadership reckoning about what I was really building, and for whom.

  2. 2021 – 2022

    Finding the teaching

I began mentoring one-to-one and noticed the pattern everywhere: the gap African professionals felt was never talent, it was the absence of a path. I decided to build that path.

2023 – present

Botswana and the community

  1. 2023

    Cyber meetups & mentorship webinar

    February

Started running cyber meetups and a monthly mentorship webinar, turning private mentoring into something a whole community could climb with.

  2. 2023

    Country Director, Serianu Botswana

    September · moved with family

Took the country helm and moved to Botswana: running the operation, the team and the client work end to end.

  3. 2024

    Founder, Ongoza Cyber Hub

    OCH

Launched OCH: mentorship, drills, missions and the Schools of Thought, so African talent has a path from day one.

  4. 2026

    Author, The Invisible Expert

    & OCH cohort one

The argument in full, and the first full OCH cohort: hundreds of learners on the same climb I once made alone.

  5. 2025 – 27

    MBA (in progress)

Hult International Business School · graduating August 2027

Sharpening the business and leadership edge behind the technical work: strategy, finance and the judgment that lets you scale it.

The throughline

The gap was never talent. It’s the path.
